Biotrap QLD Male Fruit Fly Trap
One trap is for monitoring male fruit flies use one trap with the male lure by a trap clear wafer and a sticky panel insert. The lure is a para-pheromone that primarily attracts the male Queensland fruit fly (bactrocera Tryoni). This lure will attract fruit flies from up to 3-400 meters. Just drop the Biotrap cuelure wafer into the base of the trap to avoid handling the wafer. Importantly, do not contaminate the outside surface of the trap with the lure as the flies will be attracted to the outside of the trap and will not enter the trap. Remove the protective covering on the sticky insert and simply place it in the yellow base of the trap between the holes.
The Biotrap QLD Male Fruit Fly Trap is an effective way to monitor the presence of Queensland fruit flies. The trap should be hung within the foliage of a tree, at a height of approximately 1.2 – 1.5 meters, preferably on the northeastern side (morning sun). The cuelure wafer is effective for 6 months. Check the trap weekly and record numbers if flies are detected or numbers increase appropriate control measures should commence.
This system is only for monitoring it is not a control measure but it is a very useful tool in determining the presence of Queensland fruit flies and the potential population.
