The Plant Runner Cacti & Succulent Mix
The Plant Runner Cacti & Succulent Mix is two of the most common ways people kill cacti are through overwatering and planting them in the wrong potting media. Firstly, please, stop watering them so much – they don’t need it, secondly – give them the mix these spiky heroes deserve! There isn’t one size fits for plant soils, what works for a Monstera isn’t usually going to work for a cactus.
Cacti and succulents are traditionally found in arid sandy places (you’ve got a mental image of a desert for a reason) and the cacti’s shallow roots are used to lose, well-draining soils. The stuff you find at the local garden warehouse isn’t usually the best, often made with cheap ingredients that clump around the roots and lead to root rot. So – we’ve some time designing the ultimate soil mix for Succulents and Cacti so they can stay alive and thrive.
Unlike other mixes, THE PLANT RUNNER CACTI & SUCCULENT MIX is a specialty potting mix that will allow any excess moisture to drain off after your prickly friends have soaked up what they need. Cacti are the masters of rapid water absorption – they’ll take in what they need and store excess in their thick stem walls, so we’ve made sure our mix drains off quickly. This helps minimize fungal disease and root rot. We’ve included a slow-release fertilizer to help them settle in faster too.

OUR TOP TIPS FOR CACTI AND SUCCULENTS
- Use terracotta pots. Repeat after me: terracotta is cacti’s best friend. Terracotta is porous and retains heat more than glazed or plastic pots
- When repotting cacti, don’t water them immediately. Let them adjust to their new digs and give them a drink a couple of weeks later.
- Repot every 3-4 years when the roots reach the edge of the pot.
